CFESA Fall Conference Highlights

CFESA Fall Conference A Success!

The CFESA 2007 Fall Conference was held October 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency, Atlanta, GA. By all accounts the conference was a huge success.

As is customary the conference began with the Board of Directors meeting followed by committee meetings and the CFESA Opening Event. This year the event was a networking dinner featuring a blues band.

The second day of conference was kicked off with a buffet breakfast followed by an Executive Briefing Session covering the topics of Labor Issues and Food Safety & Security. The following session included the Ever-Changing Challenges of the Non-Commercial Market with a panel consisting of Fred Carter, ACFSA; Sharon Cox, HFM; David Annis, NACUFS; and Brenda Blanton, SNA. After the panel discussion a luncheon was held to present CFESA Honorary Membership Status awards and to honor the Dormont Techs of the Year. Irene Sykes, Authorized Commercial Equipment Service, and John Guetller were presented with the Honorary Member Award for their contribution to the foodservice industry. The Dormont Technicians of the year were: Tie for third place: Mike Kochmann and Steve Lemley, Ecolab/GCS. Second place went to Mike Skaja, General Parts LLC, Bensenville, IL. First place was awarded to Todd Luedtke, General Parts LLC, Waukesha, WI. After lunch the CFESA Membership Meeting was held followed by roundtable discussions which included such topics as: Communication and Training, Extended Warranties, Life Cycle Costs, Mandatory Parts Stocking, and OEM Parts.

The final day of conference started with a buffet breakfast followed by an Executive Briefing Session covering the topics of Energy and Nexus Taxes. The following session included a Channel Challenges Panel consisting of speakers, Jean Choquette, CFESA; Rudy Miick, FCSI; Mark Fuchs, FEDA; Mitch Reilly, MAFSI; and Kevin Fink, NAFEM. After this session the customary golf tournament was held at Stone Mountain Golf Course. 1st place winners received $100.00 per player; Team Eight - Don Purser, Jim Johnson, David Hahn, and Chris Moy. 2nd place winners received $50.00 per player; Team Three - Claude Dubeau, Louise Marie Dubeau, John Sappo, and Dan Cone. 3rd place winners received $25.00 per player; Team Thirteen - Jeff McMahon, Tom Walter, Juan Martinez, and Brad Miller.

This year the CFESA Fall Conference boasted an attendance of over 220 attendees. Nearly 30 of the attendees were first timers. The NAFEM Show immediately followed the CFESA Fall Conference. CFESA exhibited at the NAFEM Show and shared booth space with MAFSI. The show proved to be successful for CFESA with the potential for 15 new members and several advertising opportunities being introduced.
