CFESA Fall Conference A
Success!
The CFESA 2007 Fall
Conference was held October 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency,
Atlanta, GA. By all accounts the conference was a huge
success.
As is customary the
conference began with the Board of Directors meeting
followed by committee meetings and the CFESA Opening Event.
This year the event was a networking dinner featuring a
blues band.
The second day of conference
was kicked off with a buffet breakfast followed by an
Executive Briefing Session covering the topics of Labor
Issues and Food Safety & Security. The following session
included the Ever-Changing Challenges of the Non-Commercial
Market with a panel consisting of Fred Carter, ACFSA; Sharon
Cox, HFM; David Annis, NACUFS; and Brenda Blanton, SNA. After
the panel discussion a luncheon was held to present CFESA
Honorary Membership Status awards and to honor the Dormont
Techs of the Year. Irene Sykes, Authorized Commercial
Equipment Service, and John Guetller were presented with the
Honorary Member Award for their contribution to the
foodservice industry. The Dormont Technicians of the year
were: Tie for third place: Mike Kochmann and Steve Lemley,
Ecolab/GCS. Second place went to Mike Skaja, General Parts
LLC, Bensenville, IL. First place was awarded to Todd
Luedtke, General Parts LLC, Waukesha, WI. After lunch the
CFESA Membership Meeting was held followed by roundtable
discussions which included such topics as: Communication and
Training, Extended Warranties, Life Cycle Costs, Mandatory
Parts Stocking, and OEM Parts.
The final day of conference
started with a buffet breakfast followed by an Executive
Briefing Session covering the topics of Energy and Nexus
Taxes. The following session included a Channel Challenges
Panel consisting of speakers, Jean Choquette, CFESA; Rudy
Miick, FCSI; Mark Fuchs, FEDA; Mitch Reilly, MAFSI; and
Kevin Fink, NAFEM. After this session the customary golf
tournament was held at Stone Mountain Golf Course. 1st place
winners received $100.00 per player; Team Eight - Don
Purser, Jim Johnson, David Hahn, and Chris Moy. 2nd place
winners received $50.00 per player; Team Three - Claude
Dubeau, Louise Marie Dubeau, John Sappo, and Dan Cone. 3rd
place winners received $25.00 per player; Team Thirteen -
Jeff McMahon, Tom Walter, Juan Martinez, and Brad Miller.
This year the CFESA Fall
Conference boasted an attendance of over 220
attendees. Nearly 30 of the attendees were first timers. The
NAFEM Show immediately followed the CFESA Fall Conference.
CFESA exhibited at the NAFEM Show and shared booth space
with MAFSI. The show proved to be successful for CFESA with
the potential for 15 new members and several advertising
opportunities being introduced.
