CFESA 2006 Spring Conference
 The
CFESA Spring Conference was held May 17-19 in Chicago, IL at the Hotel
InterContinental. By all accounts the conference was a huge success with a
record breaking 220 attendees including 22 first time attendees.
On day one the conference kicked off with a Regional
Leader’s Training Meeting presented by Carla Strickland. Following this meeting was the
customary Board of Directors Meeting and then the First Timers Reception. The Opening
Dinner was quite an event. The guest speaker was President George Bush.
Well, sort of... John Morgan, a professional Bush impersonator was
ceremoniously introduced, complete with "Hail to the Chief" played in the
background. Mr. Bush, ahh-umm, Mr. Morgan kept the audience entertained with
his uncanny appearance and "Bush-like" antics.
As a special treat Roger Martin, Stove Parts &
Supply/Ecolab was "roasted" during dinner in
honor of his retirement from the foodservice industry. Mr. Martin has worked
40 years in the industry and been a positive influence to many people
throughout the years. The stage was set complete with a lighted cactus and
hosts Kim Fenimore and Carla Strickland wearing cowboy hats. In keeping with
the theme of the occasion Mr. Martin was presented with a stuffed armadillo.
At the end of the roast, Roger Martin was named an honorary member of CFESA
and presented with a plaque from President Tina Reese.
Day two began with a networking breakfast. The panel
discussion of "Realistic Warranty Rates" was given by Michael Buelow, Enodis;
Bruce Hodge, General Parts; Paul Toukatly, Duffy’s Equipment; Phil Fox,
Middleby Cooking System Group; John Schwindt, Hawkins Commercial Appliance;
Patrick Walker, Electrolux. Prior to the session, CFESA members were given a
question card so that they might participate in the discussion. The
Installation, Testing and Certification presentation followed with speakers
Patrick Duffy, Duffy’s Equipment and Mark LeBerte, ATECH, INC. Lunch was
then served and the outgoing directors received their plaques and thanks
from President Tina Reese.
The final activity of the day was the committee meetings.
All meetings were successful with good turnout and a lot of progress being
made.
Friday, May 19, began with a networking breakfast which
was followed by a Membership Meeting. During this meeting Roger Kauffman
conducted the election of Officers and Directors. All voting members were
asked to vote for the open board member positions. The outgoing board
members were Roger Kauffman, EMR and Tony Rapanotti, AR Repairs Baker’s
Kneads. The newly elected incoming board members are: Joe Pierce, Pierce
Parts & Service; David Hahn, FESCO; Gary Schermann, General Parts and
re-elected board member Mark LeBerte, ATECH, INC. Congratulations to all.
Following the membership meeting a panel discussion was held entitled:
Dispatch Methods & Principals" with Todd Maxwell as the moderator. The panel
members were: Bill Findlay, Bromley Parts & Service; Roger Forsberg, Golden
State Appliance, Scott Hester, Refrigerated Specialist and Bruce Peeling,
EMR. Immediately following the discussion a luncheon was held to welcome the
new incoming president. Tina Reese, outgoing president passed the gavel in a
ceremony to Jean Choquette. Jean Choquette in turn presented Tina Reese with
a plaque to acknowledge her term as president. After lunch, guest speaker,
Jack Huffman, Professor of University of Wisconsin conducted the seminar
"Inventory Stocking Methodology."
