Protocol For Recertification Of CFESA Certified
Technicians
In September 2002, the Education/Training Committee
proposed guidelines for re-certification of CFESA Technicians. The CFESA
Board of Directors approved this proposal. Since that time, each
technician passing a certification test has been assigned a number and
sent a laminated card with the technician’s name, number, and are of
certification. Each CFESA Certification is in effect for five years.
A. Once a technician has passed any of the
certification tests, they will be issued a certification number with
their areas of certification, e.g 12345E (certified in electric),
12345EGSR (master certified technician trained in electric, gas, steam
or refrigeration). CFESA warranty forms would have this certification
number under the "Service Technician’s Name."
B. A "CFESA Certified Technician" will retain
certification for five years, from the date of the last certification,
regardless if they are working for the company they were employed by
while being certified, employed by a non-CFESA member company or
self-employed. After a five-year period, if a CFESA member, does not
employ the technician, all certifications will be revoked.
C. After a five year period, the technician must be
recertified as below:
1. Be employed by a CFESA member company and show
proof of ongoing training with at least two completion certificates
for each are of certification, from either CFESA training schools or
manufacturer training schools from the date of the last
certification obtained, e.g. (if the electrical certification is due
for renewal, then two completion certificates will be required, if
the electrical and gas are due for renewal then 4 completion
certificates will be required), or
2. The above requirement is waived if the
employee is employed by a CFESA Certified Company, or
3. Be employed by a CFESA member company and
retake the CFESA Certification exam that has expired.
D. A Technician cannot be recertified if:
1. They are not employed by a CFESA member company
after five years from the last certification date.
2. They are employed be a CFESA member company, but
have not shown proof of ongoing education, and do not take the
examination test.
E. All existing technician certifications remain valid
and will automatically get a five year extension period from January 1,
2003.
This means, that every technician who received a CFESA
Certification in any area (Electric, Gas, Steam or Refrigeration) in
2003 or prior
to 2003 will be coming due for recertification in 2008.
For those technicians that were certified after 2003,
they will be notified when their certifications are
due for renewal. For more information contact Marsha Cross at
